According to the United States Department of Agriculture, school-age Americans are consuming less than the recommended amount of vegetables—which is a problem, because produce is dense in nutrients children need, like fiber, calcium, vitamin C and potassium. By offering a variety of fresh produce and salad options every day, SAGE makes eating fruits and vegetables tasty, convenient and customizable. This hopefully increases the likelihood that students will eat their veggies!
SAGE offers two kinds of fresh-cut fruit and serves fresh vegetables daily, not only as sides, but options for sandwiches, wraps, and soups. We offer at least two different types of salad greens and a variety of toppings, as well as at least three house-made composed salads every day.
By making their own salad dressings, SAGE can limit the amount of added sugars and sodium they contain, and avoid the use of trans fats altogether—so healthy veggies don’t end up doused in empty calories!
