Head of School Letter: Thanksgiving

Head of School Letter

The poet Alberto Rios writes:

One river gives
Its journey to the next.

Giving has many faces; It is loud and quiet,
Big, though small, diamond in wood nails.
You gave me blue and I gave you yellow.
Together we are simple green.

Of course, the origin of our upcoming holiday is about giving thanks, offering appreciation and expressing gratitude. It is about recognizing that we are all the recipients of gifts from each other, and that giving, as Rios says, “has many faces.” At Thanksgiving, we pause to reflect and say aloud the appreciation we have for the many gifts in our lives.

There are so many things to be grateful for.

  • The gift of learning and the many opportunities that Shorecrest students have to think, grow and express themselves
  • The gift of our bodies and the miracle of movement
  • The gift of beauty, that moment when we see, feel or hear something that moves us
  • The gift to make a difference in the lives of others
  • The gift of nurturance, love, and support from family and friends

As you take time next week to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, please know that we especially treasure the gift of your presence in this Shorecrest community. I wish everyone a happy, healthy and restful Thanksgiving vacation.

All the best,

Nancy
