Children who could not identify the letters of the alphabet can now read. Young children have demonstrated to teachers, peers and parents projects that show their ability to write, speak and research as if they were much further along in school. Eighth grade students have demonstrated their passions and a readiness for the opportunities that lie ahead in Upper School. Athletic teams have won Conference, Regional, State, and even National Championships. Artists have produced personal and marvelous pieces, many of which have been recognized in National and Regional competitions. School productions from The Experiential School through the Upper School’s Mary Poppins highlighted the great talent and confidence of our students. Thousands of service hours were contributed to non-profit organizations, to people, animals and environmental concerns around Saint Petersburg, Tampa Bay and the world.
Robotics, coding classes and clubs have taken the school by storm. The Makerspace and expansion of high-quality, supervised, online course electives for Upper School students have added greatly to our school experience and educational opportunities.
Student leaders have emerged through the student Honor Council and the myriad athletic, arts, service and academic programs offered school-wide. The faculty has worked to incorporate the community-building values learned through Responsive Classroom and Developmental Design into all Experiential, Lower and Middle School classes.
Of course, parents, guardians, grandparents and friends have partnered with the faculty, staff and school to ensure the total educational experience and that the school community is enhanced. The talent, time and resources provided by the greater community contributed to making this year one of the best ever.
The performance of our students, teachers and community continue to make Shorecrest the flagship academic school in our region. It has been a great year and we are looking forward to exciting developments planned for the coming year!
In the meantime, I thank everyone in the greater Shorecrest community for all of the efforts to make the school experience meaningful and enjoyable for our children. Shorecrest exists to educate the children of our community. Thank you for doing a great job. Our school and Saint Petersburg are stronger today than ever before.
Have a wonderful summer.
Cheers!
