The Accreditation Team, representing the Florida Council of Independent School (FCIS), the Florida Kindergarten Council (FKC) and the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), spent three days on campus this week. The team has given us some great feedback on our plans for improvement and for the outstanding work the teachers and staff offer to students, families and each other every day. What’s next? We implement the School Improvement Plan.
Let’s innovate! Let’s be sure our children are critical thinkers, collaborators, creative and strong communicators. Let’s be sure they are able to use technology and other tools that will allow them to create the careers and robots that will replace or change the workplace as we know it today.
Let’s embrace diversity of all forms. Let’s be sure our school community is equitable and that all of our children are prepared to engage with individuals and communities around the world.
Let’s become a stronger community. Let’s find ways to allow our older students to connect and support our younger children. Let’s find ways for all members of the community to increasingly find Shorecrest as the center for family learning and activity.
Let’s embed our five Core Values: Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Knowledge and Compassion into everything every member of our community does for our school.
Let’s ensure that families who desire after school programs and summer programs have available the same range and quality of programming as provided during the school day.
Let’s maintain our small class sizes but at the same time enroll and retain as many Mission appropriate students as our school can educate and support.
The Accreditation Team also left recommendations for the academic and other functional departments. Now we must focus our efforts to determine if those suggestions will best serve our children and community. Community members interested in working on any of our school improvement goals are encouraged to contact me or one of the school heads so we can make use of your talents.
Simultaneously, the Board is leading the school in a Strategic Planning process. Our intention is to have identified the key imperatives for Shorecrest for the coming three to five years. These two plans together will set a clear path for our school.
This is an exciting time to be at Shorecrest. Regardless of the current success our students are experiencing, we are aware that continuous improvement is essential if we want our children to have an education that prepares them to thrive and compete with children from other parts of our country and world.
Cheers!
Mike
