Have a Great Summer

You did it! A minimum of 350 trips from your home to school and back. Somewhere in excess of 100 books read, problems solved and lunches packed. Attendance at project shares, class plays, athletic events, performances and, of course, “Cinderella.”
We celebrated. We celebrated the arrival of 175 new students and 22 new teachers and staff. We celebrated our three National Merit Finalists and the four Commended Students. We went wild for our Varsity Girls Volleyball team that won the State Championship, our swimmers who won their 15th consecutive District Championship, the football team coming from behind in the final minute to win the Homecoming game and our Boys Varsity Soccer Team who were State Runner-Up.
We are thrilled that two of our graduates will begin college at world renown art and theatre universities. We wish the best for the eight graduates who will go on to compete in collegiate athletics. We celebrated Caleb Kravitz ‘20’s State Championship in swimming and then his being selected for the $15,000 grand prize for his safe driving video from Toyota and Discovery Education. We are thrilled that Renice Dacres ‘19 won a State Championship in the triple jump and that she and RJ Ayers ‘19 were State Runners-Up in the long jump and shot put respectively. Just this week, Angel Cherman ‘19 was recognized for scoring in the top 1% of the 340,000 entries to the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards.
Families that visited campus in recent weeks saw Lower School students present project shares and Middle School students present their in-depth studies. We saw how much our children have grown over the past year.
I am appreciative of the faculty for their dedication and love for their students and their passion for the subjects and learning skills they impart. Together with family members we strive to give all of our students a meaningful and inspiring educational experience. I am glad our children love having free time, and am even happier knowing that so many children enjoy the learning experiences provided to them. There is no getting around the fact that the day-to-day routine of going to school, like going to work, can wear one down. It is time for a change of pace. Summer.
Hopefully, all members of our community will have safe and productive summer activities. Two weeks ago I wrote about the importance of having designated time during the summer to ensure that skills developed in the past year stay fresh. While I hope the summer activities rejuvenate all members of our community, I am sure we can rejuvenate while also participating in meaningful and positive activities.
There will be administrators and faculty on campus all summer. While everyone will be encouraged to take some vacation time, we will be here to support students and families when you need us.
