Homecoming

Coming up next week is the Shorecrest tradition that stands as a favorite for our Upper School students and our alumni. The freshmen, like ninth graders before them, are going to learn that working together as a united class is the formula for fun and success during Homecoming Week. Meanwhile, the Class of 2020 is looking for back-to-back victories in the class competitions. The cheerleaders look forward to presenting a favorite dance routine and the football team is focused on a victory in front of the largest crowd of the year.
Shorecrest, like many other schools in the south, maintains the tradition of crowning Mr. Spirit and a Homecoming Queen. The Senior Class nominates members of the class to serve on the Homecoming Court and the Upper School Student body will vote to select the 2019 Mr. Spirit and Homecoming Queen.
Varsity level student-athletes and buddies will bring Experiential School and Lower School students to a pep rally on Friday. Middle School students will be given time to watch their 9th-12th grade peers in class competitions. Upper School students will create class banners, participate in the dress up competitions, and of course play and cheer as their classmates compete with others on class competition day. Crab soccer, powder puff football, Brain Bowl and volleyball are the traditional games played. Over the years the cheerleading routines performed by boys from each class have developed into works of art.
The wins and losses of a Homecoming week have a short-term impact. The spirit of the week lives on all year and into the coming decades. One of the great joys those of us at school are able to enjoy is the energy, passion, creativity and companionship students share with each other during special events like Homecoming activities.
