Science is an integral part of the Junior Kindergarten curriculum. Children are encouraged to observe, ask questions, document, and wonder.
Teachers encouraged the students thinking of themselves as scientists by asking the children: "What is a scientist?"
Responses included: "Scientists use tubes to mix water and chemicals." "Scientists make potions." and "Scientists wear glasses to be safe!"
Following a whole-group discussion, teachers interviewed each student to learn about what they were interested in studying. The ideas will resurface in future whole group areas of study.
