Head of School Letter: Grandparents and Special Friends Day
Today we celebrated Shorecrest’s 39th Grandparents and Special Friends Day! It was a joyful, happy day, where we welcomed some very special guests to campus, people who are so important to our students.
The purpose of Grandparents and Special Friends Day is to offer a glimpse inside the classroom and gain a sense of the daily life of Shorecrest by observing children and teachers engaged in learning activities. There are also student performances from a variety of grade levels where visitors can see the progression of talented artists from our youngest students to the impressive production numbers from our Middle School and Upper School musicals. The day ends with all visitors invited to join the students at lunch, enjoying a meal together.
As many of you are aware, Shorecrest was founded in 1923 and we are one of the oldest day schools still in operation in Florida. Since its founding, families, including grandparents, have played an integral role in the life of the School. We are a generational school, with children and grandchildren of alumni enrolled today as current Chargers, learning and growing. We are a school that treasures its history while facing forward and looking ahead with excitement and innovation.
And while our physical structure and campus have changed enormously over the past decades, what hasn’t changed is the commitment that all Shorecrest students are challenged and supported, as they journey through their education and develop a love of learning.
We welcome the involvement of grandparents through the Shorecrest Grandparent Council. The mission of the Grandparent Council is “to encourage grandparent support and volunteerism at Shorecrest.” For those who live locally or will be in St. Petersburg visiting, we welcome all participation in a variety of volunteer opportunities: in the classroom, library, athletics -- or joining a class as an expert presenter.
It means so much to our students to have their grandparents and special friends join them on campus.
They want to share with pride this school that they love so much.
They are eager to talk about what they are learning and doing.
They are excited to have their guests meet their teachers and friends.
They enjoy the chance to have their grandparents and special friends experience the sense of community that makes Shorecrest so very special.
Thank you to all the Grandparents and Special Friends who joined us today. We look forward to your next visit!
All the best,
Nancy
