Shorecrest Upper School Theatre presented "The Phantom of the Opera" at the Janet Root Theatre, April 14-16 at 7pm. Congratulations to the cast, crew, Directors and volunteers for giving audiences a show to love!
The longest-running show in Broadway history, this legendary musical features lavish costumes and scenery, as well as a thrilling score with well-known songs, including “Music of the Night” and “Masquerade.”
Set in a 19th century French opera house, a beautiful young soprano becomes the obsession of a disfigured musical genius who lives in a haunting underground lair. Consumed with winning her love, the Phantom terrorizes the opera house in this dramatic story that reveals the true power of music and love.
Shorecrest’s past theatre students have included Patrick Wilson and Ashlee Dupre’ – both of whom have starred in professional Phantom productions. Wilson starred in the leading role of Raoul in Webber’s movie adaptation of Phantom in 2004. Dupre’ was a ballet dancer in the 2006 Las Vegas production of Phantom. Interestingly, the school’s connection to Phantom doesn’t end there. Shorecrest’s musical director, Michael McCarthy, is an internationally acclaimed actor and singer who starred as Phantom in Ken Hill’s original musical adaptation of the novel in London’s West End and United Kingdom tour.
Right to produce Phantom in a high school have only been available for a few short years, and it is rarely performed due to the lavish set and costumes, and difficult song and dance numbers. The Shorecrest Upper School production was fabulous, a pre-Broadway spectacular!
The following students spent too many hours to count putting together such a wonderful show! Please congratulate:
