Saturday, October 8, 2016, Shorecrest families, community educators, and Tampa Bay Area baseball enthusiasts are welcome in the Janet Root Theatre for a showing of “The First,” a Jackie Robinson documentary. The film was produced by Shorecrest Preparatory School faculty member Bennett Zamoff, in concert with The Jackie Robinson Project of George Washington University.

"The First" is a documentary about the life and impact of Jackie Robinson, well-known as the baseball player who integrated the modern major leagues, but who is often overlooked as the catalyst of America’s civil rights movement. Produced in conjunction with the Jackie Robinson Project at George Washington University, The First explores Jackie Robinson’s career as a baseball player and his role in continuing the fight for equality once he retired from the game.

According to one parent attendee, “I knew a lot about Jackie Robinson’s baseball career, but I had no idea how much he was involved in politics and the civil rights movement. I loved learning about it from the voices of the children.”

The documentary will be distributed to schools and educational organizations free of charge. You can attend a viewing right here at Shorecrest in the Janet Root Theatre!
Tickets are free and open to the public. Learn more and reserve your seats at www.shorecrest.org/first.
