Kindergarten Service Learning: Pillows for Others

Kindergarten

Mrs. Gail Stark, the Volunteer Coordinator from The Salvation Army Homeless Shelter, visited the kindergarteners at Shorecrest. Mrs. Stark spoke with students about the services provided by the shelter and the needs of the people who live there. Last Friday, while the residents were away at work and school, classed visited the shelter. What an interesting tour!

Using the kindergarten’s brand new sewing machine, Mrs. Minke helped each child sew a cute pillow for the children at the homeless shelter. Students proudly carried the pillows they had made onto the bus, into the shelter, and gently laid them onto the children’s beds. We can be very proud of our kindergartners for this unselfish act of kindness for children who are less fortunate.
