Kindergarten students are currently studying homes and buildings. This week they were excited to visit a construction site first-hand to learn more about the process. They met with Shorecrest dad Chris Oman, Owner and General Contractor of Oman Construction in Gulfport. He is overseeing a project that consists of 5 retail stores on the ground level, 5 apartments above, and office space on the third floor.
The students were able to relate the work seen on the construction site with previous guest speakers they’ve had. Mr. Green, an architect, reviewed the plans for the new building coming to Shorecrest with the kindergarteners. Maria Rawls, a General Contractor at Harvard Jolly, shared a floor plan, elevation plan, and sectional plans of a modern home built by her company.
The Chargers seem to be most interested in the process of building homes, so they will be learning more about the many workers who are part of those projects (architects, general contractors, electricians, plumbers, surveyors, painters, etc.)
