Jennifer Phelps Named Director of the Center for Academic Excellence

Shorecrest is proud to announce that after an extensive national search, Jennifer Phelps will take on the role of Director of the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE), the next iteration of the program currently known as The Learning Center at Shorecrest. The addition of this role and the program's name change are part of the expansion of the robust student support services Shorecrest offers. Jennifer's position and the program's name change are effective July 1, 2023.  

Jennifer has 20 years of experience in the field of therapy and education, and has founded and co-founded several successful businesses that support children through ABA-based programs, therapies, education, and care. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Jennifer was the Director of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) at All Children’s Hospital where she coordinated a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists within the hospital’s Autism Center. 

Using research-based strategies for all learners, Jennifer’s approach to learning systems and education is dedicated to helping students achieve their academic and personal goals, She is currently the CEO and Co-Founder of Prospr, a business support services company designed to assist clinicians manage and grow their businesses.

Jennifer has an associate's degree in Psychology from Broward Community College, a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida, and a Master of Science in Psychology from Florida State. She is currently a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and is a member of the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts. 

Jennifer shares the School's vision to create a legacy of inclusive, innovative and transformational education that ignites the potential of all learners. The Center for Academic Excellence at Shorecrest is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, where students feel comfortable asking questions, seeking help, and learning to embrace challenges as opportunities for personal growth. The goal of the CAE is to ensure that every student at Shorecrest accesses its many resources and opportunities, in order to unlock each student's full potential. 

In a competitive pool of both local and national candidates, Jennifer stood out as the ideal professional to launch the Center for Academic Excellence at Shorecrest. In addition to her wealth of knowledge and experience in student support services and program management, she is also the parent of two Shorecrest students and is currently a member of the Shorecrest Board of Trustees. She will step down from her role as Trustee at the end of May prior to beginning her position on the administrative team.  

Jennifer shared, "It fills me with immense joy to become the Director of the Center for Academic Excellence at Shorecrest. Over the last 5 years, I have been an involved member of this community as a parent and board member, I have witnessed the commitment and enthusiasm of the faculty, board members, and families towards the same mission. I am honored to collaborate with the current TLC team, Head of School Nancy Spencer, and the entire Shorecrest faculty in expanding the center's reach by making a valuable contribution to the ongoing progress and achievements of each student and our exceptional community."
