Shorecrest Models Innovative Teaching and Learning for International Visitors
On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, two members of the administrative team from Boon Lay Secondary School in Singapore visited Shorecrest to learn about the practices that have earned Shorecrest Apple Distinguished School recognition since 2016.
“We always love welcoming fellow educators and learning from one another. We were happy to share how we use Apple technologies to transform teaching and learning,” said Dr Anna Baralt, Shorecrest Director of Technology and Media Services.
Boon Lay was recently awarded Apple Distinguished School recognition. Principal Inderjit Singh and Head of the Learning Technologies Department, Alexandria Tang, wanted to understand what makes Shorecrest a long-standing Apple Distinguished School recipient. Their school visit was part of a trip to attend the Apple Distinguished School Leadership Academy 2024.
Singh and Tang observed a fifth grade social studies class using Google Earth, Upper School photography class, AP Economics class, and an engineering class. Impressed by Shorecrest's facilities, they photographed several spaces, such as the robotics classrooms, The Peck Center for Medical Sciences classroom, the makerspace and the Charger Commons overhead doors - which make for flexible and responsive learning spaces.
The day also included discussions about the applications and tools Shorecrest uses, why the School made the shift from an iPad program to a laptop program in the Upper School, digital citizenship and the need to work with families.
Baralt shared, “We recognized that even though we are a world apart, the challenges we face are the same.”
