Head of School Letter: Happy New Year!
As we ease back into the routines of school life, it is exciting to look ahead. Classes are underway with new projects and topics to explore. Athletic competitions, theater rehearsals and club meetings are up and running, with plenty of new challenges and opportunities for Shorecrest students.
While our centennial year has concluded, preparation is already underway for other upcoming fun community events. Plans are in the works for the International Festival, our annual all-school Family Movie Night, and the First LEGO League robotics competition on campus, to name a few. SCA is hosting social events; and we are delighted to announce our first Atlanta-area alumni gathering taking place later in January.
We are also excited to welcome the arrival of our Middle School delegation from Colegios Ramón y Cajal in Madrid, Spain. The delegation of 10 students will be visiting Shorecrest from January 13-27. Our students look forward to learning more about their Spanish culture and sharing the daily Chargers experiences with them.
Looking ahead to next weekend, I invite you to join me and other members of the school community in celebrating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Our plan is to again gather at the MLK Dream Big Parade on Monday, January 15, to support members of the greater St. Petersburg community as they march to honor Dr. King’s life and legacy.
In recognition of Dr. King’s commitment to service, Shorecrest Chargers will participate in the clean-up efforts at the conclusion of the parade. The parade starts at 11am. If you would like to watch the parade together or be a part of the clean-up event, please meet at noon at the corner of 1st Avenue S. and 5th Street downtown in full Shorecrest gear. For more information please contact Mr. Roderick Fludd at [email protected].
Shorecrest 2024 is well underway! I hope to see you on campus or at many other community events.
All the best,
Nancy
