Sock Drive Success in Fourth Grade

Lower School News Service News

Fourth graders at Shorecrest spend second semester in a deep inquiry study on the topic of  sustainability. Each student (or group of students) finishes the unit by sharing a project to express what they learned and how it was meaningful to them.

Fox H. ‘32 and Lexie S. ‘32 chose to become experts on United Nations Sustainability Goal #1 - No Poverty. They created a video using iMovie informing people about what they can do to help with the problem of poverty in our world. One example was donating to shelters. Fox and Lexie hosted a Sock Drive in the Lower School and received over 400 socks to donate to the St. Pete CASA house.

“Fox and Lexie's project was very passion driven,” shared their teacher, Claire Horton. “They wrote a proposal to Dr. Bianco for the Sock Drive and shared the details during Town Meeting to the whole Lower School. They printed flyers, shared a video, and were very happy with the results of the Drive. They went above and beyond for the project and made an impact!
