Dr. Elizabeth (Lizz) Angello joined Shorecrest as the eighth grade English teacher in 2018. Dr. Angello has been teaching English Literature and Writing, as well as literature at the college level, for nearly 25 years. She has a doctorate in English from the University of South Florida, a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Delaware and a bachelor’s degree in English and Art History with Departmental Honors from Hood College.
In her free time, Dr. Angello writes and publishes on medieval and early modern English literature. She's also the mom of a teen.
We asked Lizz some get-to-know you questions:
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was in 1st grade, we had a kind of career day. We were supposed to dress up in the style of the profession to which we aspired. I wore my fanciest dress and shiny patent leather shoes, and I declared to my class that what I most wanted to be was IN CHARGE. "Of what?" my teacher asked. "Everything," I said.

Who is your hero?
My hero is Eleanor Roosevelt. She worked within the confines of familial and societal expectations to make the world a better place. Her unwavering commitment to diplomacy in the aftermath of World War II led to the creation of one of the most important documents in human history: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

What is your favorite thing about your career?
The best part of my job is seeing "lightbulb moments"--the instant in which someone understands something that they previously found confusing or intimidating. I love to watch the lightbulb come on in their brain.
Do you have a favorite game to play?
I love to play video games, especially side-scrolling platformers. Right now, I'm playing a lot of Sackboy on the PS5, but my favorite games of all time are Guacamelee 2 and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. The latter is the most beautiful and heartrending story I've ever seen in a video game, and it's just challenging enough to keep me the perfect level of frustrated and entertained. But that ending rips me apart! I cry every time.
