Excel Club Volunteers at Ronald McDonald House

Service News

On Saturday, November 22, six students volunteered to prepare lunch for the Ronald McDonald house, which provides housing for families of children in All Children’s Hospital who are desperately in need.

Lead and organized by Chris M and Christian P, the group prepared and served chili, grilled cheese, and cookies to families staying in the house. Everything ran smoothly and according to plan. Many families shuffled through, equating to approximately forty people served.

One mother said that she was grateful for the food that was prepared as it allowed her to easily feed her children. She also told us that food provided through the Ronald McDonald house helped her to just feed her family of four because meals are expensive and medical bills are high.

A parent volunteer, Shorecrest CFO Karen Moore, said that her “experience was wonderful. [She] enjoyed interacting with all of the families and learning how thankful people are for the little things that we are able to do. [She] also loved seeing the students step up and take control in the kitchen.”

Junior Chris M commented that “it was amazing to see the difference that one meal can make.” Both Chris and Christian were proud of how smoothly the process ran and of how many people they were able to serve. The leftovers from the meal were saved to be used for another lunch later in the week.
