Each year, “TIME” and Nickelodeon launch a nationwide search to find kids aged 8 - 16 who embody five key attributes: determination, passion, kindness, bravery and innovation. The result is TIME’s Kid of the Year, and the finalists are each changing the world in unique ways, big and small.
Shorecrest fourth grader Miles F. was named a TIME Kid of the Year Finalist! Through his company, created “Kids Saving Oceans,” he sells merchandise made from plastic that was reclaimed from the ocean and recycled. (More details in this prior ebytes article: https://www.shorecrestebytes.com/news-detail?pk=1296850) His online shop has generated over $23,000 in donations to ocean conservation organizations. You can also see Miles in the online commercial for the Nickelodeon “Kid of the Year” TV special, hosted by Trevor Noah.
Check out the products Miles sells through his business, Kids Saving Oceans, at Localtopia this weekend in downtown St. Pete at Williams Park. It will be his first event since the pandemic started, and he is super excited! At his booth he'll be selling shirts, hats, stickers, water bottles, tote bags, and copies of the book he wrote with local author Tori McGee, “Kids Saving Oceans: Olivia Makes a Difference.” All the proceeds from Localtopia will be donated to Tampa Bay Watch.
