Contributing Chargers: Reynolds Family
Shorecrest’s Mission is augmented by the generosity of our parents, grandparents, alumni and friends who support the school philanthropically or by effecting change locally, globally or right here at Shorecrest. We call these community members Contributing Chargers. This week we are pleased to spotlight Experiential and Lower School parents Zach and Abbi Reynolds. The Reynolds Family joined the Shorecrest Community in 2020, and are parents to Ellie '31 and Locke '36.
This year Abbi was the fearless leader of the Book Fair and a dedicated fourth grade class rep. As a community member who supports the school with contributions of time, skills, and philanthropic gifts, she shares why Shorecrest is important to her and Zach.
“As Tampa Bay area natives, it’s been so much fun returning home to the area as a married couple to raise our kids similarly to both of our upbringings as Florida kids. Central to both of our core philosophies is the desire for a private school education that is well researched, intentional, and one that provides a warm community environment. We couldn’t be happier in our selection of Shorecrest as our family’s home base. It’s very much a family commitment to us and one that has been full of thought. The school was a big motivation to move home once again.
“We’ve both had the pleasure of donating time and talent and we have become hands-on volunteers frequently on campus, particularly this year as the Covid restrictions we entered the school with are finally in the rear view. Zach has logged many library hours, both of us have enjoyed lunches with our children on campus, and I’ve gotten to be Class Rep for both kids for a combined 5 years.
“I’ve spent the last 3 years supporting the teachers in various ways - working in the library, volunteering for many SCA events, and most recently Chairing the Book Fair. It’s allowed me to not only see the teachers in action and witness the life they bring to the classrooms, but also to develop stronger ties with other students and their families.
“The school community means so much, not only in the friendships it has provided both of our children, but for us [parents] as well. My ‘mom friends’ have quickly become my local village. While chairing the first school Book Fair in 4 years, I called on that tribe to help with planning and the entire process was so enjoyable it felt like fun rather than work. I also got to witness firsthand how talented and gracious our community parents are. My family is grateful to have the opportunity to be heavily involved on campus and that our children are both celebrated and understood within their respective divisions in the school’s environment. It’s a pleasure watching them grow into who they’re meant to be with the nurturing we sought when selecting Shorecrest.”
