Community Sponsor Spotlight: Malio’s Prime Steakhouse
Derek and Jen Iavarone, owners of Malio’s Prime Steakhouse, have seen both of their children, Declan ’30 and Malin ’33 grow and thrive in the three short years they’ve been attending Shorecrest.
“We chose Shorecrest for the curriculum, and the STEAM activities like robotics, which are a great fit for my son,” says Jen. “We love the diversity of the families at Shorecrest, and it is the best academic fit for our family.” She adds that both children have come into their own since attending the School. “My son has always been a compassionate kid, but I’ve noticed he now takes more of a leadership role in helping people. My daughter was very shy, and she now has a great group of girlfriends. She just got 100% on her math assessment, so I know the teachers are doing great for her.”
The Iavarones have made the most of opportunities to combine their commitment to the family business with participation in the Shorecrest community. “We love that we can be a part of events such as the Gala, Soirée, and 5k, and it also gives us the opportunity to get know parents of other grades not just fourth and seventh graders,” Jen says. “The kids have a lot of great friends, and their parents are just as great.”
As a T-Shirt Sponsor for this year’s Shore to Shorecrest 5K Run/Walk – three generations of the family participated. “The kids ran, my mom and mother-in-law walked, and my husband and I stayed with the booth, giving out hats, visors and other promo items to announce our new St. Pete Beach location would be opening soon!”
Their decision to be a two-year Gala Wine Wall partner and to facilitate the School’s purchase of wine and spirits directly from the distributor comes from a clear desire to acknowledge the role the School has played in their lives.
“We do it for our children and for our community. We believe in Shorecrest and we want it to succeed for years to come. The teachers are great, and we will continue to show them the same support they give to our children. It’s been a very nice gift to have them go to Shorecrest. They come home with smiles on their faces.”
