Celebrate the Arts Week 2025

Arts Upper School News

Celebrate the Arts Week at Shorecrest is about more than just showcasing student talent — it's a time when creativity takes center stage. From playful performances to hands-on projects, students dive into art of many forms and discover new ways to express themselves and connect with what they’re learning.

Celebrate the Arts week opened in The Experiential School with Mrs. Hollenbeck, Head of The Experiential School, as a guest artist on Tuesday. She shared the process of carving wooden puppets and assembling them. She displayed some of her wood carving tools and finished projects in the exploratorium.

On Wednesday, guest artist/teacher Maddy S. shared with ES students the process of building a canvas and how to start a painting.

On Thursday, guest artist/teacher Vicki S. introduced ES students to the story of Mary Poppins and played “Let's Go Fly a Kite” on the piano.

The giant pelican puppet from last month’s puppet parade was on display so the children could view it up close.

In Lower School Cellist Victor Huls visited first grade, Pianist Wesley Ducote met with second grade and Poet Courtney Ross workshopped with third grade. A movement artist will be coming to work with Kindergarten and fourth grade next week, and other surprises are in store!

Lower School students have also been practicing poems with their classes, and performed them for their families at Poetry in the Park on Friday morning.

Middle School students performed for each other on the MS Quad this week during community time on Wednesday.

There is student artwork on display all over campus for the next few weeks! Projects made by Kindergarten, first, and second grade are in the LS Gallery, outside the LS art classroom. Fourth grade animations are playing on the monitors in the Gallery. Third graders made mandala art with their names, and they are on display in the Raymund Center. Upper School fine art is displayed in the Janet Root Theatre Lobby.

The community can get involved during Celebrate the Arts Week too! Enjoy performances of the creepy and kooky spring musical “The Addams Family” starring students in 8th-12th grades on Friday night and Saturday afternoon in the Janet Root Theatre.

Coming up - on April 25 students from LS, MS and US will perform in the Spring Music Concert at 7pm in the Janet Root Theatre.
