Rosie Simpson ‘25 Qualifies for US Sailing Youth National Team
Shorecrest Upper School senior Rosie Simpson '25 has qualified for the US Sailing Youth National Team in her Nacra 15, a double-handed (two-person), high performance catamaran.
“Making the US Sailing Team was beyond my wildest dreams,” shared Rosie. “You have to race your way onto the US Sailing Team. For the Nacra, there is a qualifier once a year called the LOCR, Lauderdale Olympic Class Regatta, and the top five boats and 10 sailors make the team.”
Making the US Sailing Youth Team is the first step in a seven-tier path that leads to the Olympics; being one of only 10 sailors under the age of 19 in the Nacra to make it is an incredible feat. The US Youth Team is made up of 72 sailors from six classes of Olympic Class Boats.
The US Sailing Team is a year-round commitment with training sessions all over the country. Each session lasts three to four days. Team members sail, work on their boats and learn about fitness and nutrition.
Rosie’s next regatta will be with the Lauderdale team and will be a 92-mile distance race from Miami to Key Largo.
