Photographer Beth Reynolds '84 Selected for Rays Artist Print Series

Photographer and Shorecrest alumna Beth Reynolds '84 was invited to create original art for the Tampa Bay Rays. The project is part of the new Rays Artist Print Series, launched in partnership with Creative Pinellas. Only 7 artists from the Tampa Bay Area are featured in the limited series. The prints are released individually throughout the season and available only at the Rays Republic Team Store at Tropicana Field. Reynolds' print launches on September 5, 2019, when the Rays take on the Toronto Blue Jays.
Each piece in the series represents the artist's own artistic vision and perspective of the Rays brand.
According to Reynolds, "Watching baseball in person - Little League, high school, minors or pro - is pure joy. I love photographing the game as much as watching it. Being selected for the Rays Artist Print Series was a true surprise, as art talent runs very deep here in the Tampa Bay Area."
"I didn't play with dolls; I played ball. Tom Seaver was on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1977," remembers Reynolds. "I had the cover taped up on my bedroom wall. I had a Joe Sambito Astros jersey; he signed it one day after my sister cut his hair in our family salon. I am a native 'Burger, and my father took us to see the St. Pete Cardinals growing up. We scored $2 ticket coupons from Publix and sat so close you could hear all the players' chatter."
The love of baseball continues to be a family trait; Reynolds captured her Rays baseball photo while watching her nephew (and Chargers Varsity Baseball MVP) Ashton Reynolds '19 play at Shorecrest last spring.
Shorecrest emphasizes arts education throughout its PK3-12 program. To celebrate the lessons and skills taught all year, the school hosts a community artist teach-in each spring during "Celebrate the Arts Week," a 20+ year tradition.
