Shorecrest School

Emphatic Sailing Win!

Athletics

This past weekend, the Sailing Team competed in the first South Points event of the 2014/2015 season. Twenty-two teams raced in the varsity division which was dominated by the Shorecrest Chargers.

Varsity sailors Patrick S. with Peninah B., and Nic B. with Kathryn B. posted a mere 13 points from the 8 races held – exactly one third of the 39 points that second place Ransom Everglades School from Miami scored. Sarasota's Pine View Academy came in a close third with 40 points. An emphatic win for the Chargers!

Cole S., Hannah S., Andreea R-P., Victoria V., Zack P., Josh D., Kyle D. and Elizabeth S. sailed well against the other 12 teams in the JV division, finishing a strong 2nd behind St. Thomas Aquinas from Ft. Lauderdale.

The next event for the entire team is South Points #2 in Jensen Beach, October 25th.  Each South Points event scores points towards qualifying for the regional championship, held in the spring.

Coming Up:
This weekend Shorecrest will field a 4-person team for the SAISA National Keelboat Invitational being held here in St. Pete. This is the first big-boat regatta for our district, and will be sailed in Sonar sailboats off the Pier. The winning team will qualify for the inaugural ISSA National Keelboat Challenge to be held in November.

In other exciting news:
Kathryn B, Peninah B, Andrea P, Hannah S and Victoria V will be representing Shorecrest at the annual PCISA Girls Invitational Regatta to be held at the San Diego Yacht Club on October 18th and 19th.  This is the only national girl’s High School Regatta in the country, and the Shorecrest Girls will be competing against 21 other female teams from around the country.
