Volleyball at Keswick Tournament, Districts

Athletics

Coming into the Keswick Invitational tournament on September 12, the Charger Varsity Volleyball team had one goal on their mind and that was "repeat". Even though this year the competition was a lot tougher than the past, the girls rolled through their competition.

"We knew coming in that top ranked St. Pete High was going to be our biggest competition. The girls executed the game plan perfectly and passed almost perfect allowing us to hit our highest team hitting efficiency." said coach Ryan Swanson.

Taylor W spread the ball around to all of our hitters, giving her 107 assits for the weekend. This also led to the team having 117 kills in five matches. Leading the way with kills were Nicole L with 36, Savanna R with 35, and Jac S with 28 for the tournament. Aggressive play on offense and defense from Savanna R and Nicole L earned them both a spot on the All-Tournament Team, and Savanna R the Tournament MVP!

The tournament win got people talking about the talent that this team has, so the girls knew coming into their district match Tuesday against Indian Rocks Christian that they had to keep things up. Dealing with a majority of the team being sick, the Chargers got off to a slow start, but still won 26-24 in the first set. After that the adrenaline began to cure the sickness. Freshman Jac S turned it on, having 10 kills with authority and 3 monster blocks.

"The girls look to keep proving that they are not a team to be messed with, being ranked 22nd in the state and 5th in Florida Class 3A. We hope to have a large crowd at all our home and away games!" Coach Swanson excitedly proclaimed.
