Donating Hair to Help Out
June 29, 2015
Isabel G, daughter of Becky Garcia '90, will be a third grader in the fall. Like many Shorecrest students before her, Isabel was inspired to a brave act of kindness this summer. After attending Relay For Life last May and hearing Olivia R's speech, just two days after finding out that her own Nana had been diagnosed with tumerous masses, Isabel wanted to share with them the only gift she thought she could give: her hair.
As she had never cut her hair in her 8 years of life, Isabel had 12 inches to donate. Though she was nervous, she knew she was doing the right thing because her Nana said there was only one thing that scared her about cancer - and it wasn't being sick - it was the thought of losing her hair. Nana found comfort in realizing she didn't have to be scared anymore, knowing there were volunteers donating their hair for her.
Isabel hopes her story inspires someone else to be courageous and donate their hair too, or volunteer to help in some way.
