Second grade is beginning an in-depth study of plants. After thinking about what they already know and what they want to learn about plants, they began by observing dry beans. They then soaked lima bean seeds overnight, and compared their observations of the dry and wet beans using all of their senses. Once they peeled the seed coat off, they were able to observe the inside of the lima bean where they noted the embryo or baby plant inside.
This week they planted seeds which will grow under artificial light in the second grade hallway. Stay tuned as we watch and record the growth of these seeds into plants!
