Outdoor Learning in Kindergarten

Lower School News

Shorecrest has its roots in the Florida sunshine, as we were first called the Shorecrest Outdoor School over 90 years ago. Today we still honor this tradition by extending the learning opportunities for our students to the outside world around our campus.

Last week kindergarten was introduced to the kindergarten outdoor classroom, which is located at the south end of the building. This previously unused space was transformed last year into an exciting learning area by our kindergarten teachers. It includes easels, a quiet reading rug, a LEGO table, drawing areas, a butterfly garden, musical instruments and various small manipulative materials to explore. The focal point of the outdoor classroom is our beautiful water play table, including a waterfall and dams. The class really enjoyed using this new creative space.
