Day of the Dead

Lower School News

Last week third and fourth grade Spanish classes celebrated Day of the Dead. Students reviewed the meaning of this celebration in Latin America and especially in Mexico. Guest expert Rebeca Palacio, a Shorecrest parent from Mexico, added personal details. She explained to the students what an altar is and what items make up an altar and their meanings. The classes created an altar together and the children put pictures of important people or pets that are no longer with them that they wished to honor. The children also tried the typical bread for this holiday, Pan de Muerto. It was a wonderful day in Spanish class!
