Five Senses Pumpkin Investigation

As part of their year-long Human Body investigation, Shorecrest first graders learn about and explore through their senses. This week the children explored pumpkins inside and out using all five of their senses.
The Chargers experienced the feeling and smell of pumpkin pulp, the way pumpkin seeds looked and felt before being cooked, and the yummy way they tasted after. Did you know you can hear cool sounds when you knock on a pumpkin?
Each first grade class then selected one of the senses and Ms. Corinne Leavengood ‘14 carved it out of a pumpkin. The lucky jack-o-lantern was a unique collaboration. Each class discussed, voted on and shared their favorite idea for a mouth, eyes, ears, a nose, and even hands! The amazing carving skills of Ms. Corinne brought their ideas to fruition on the perky pumpkin. They all loved using their sense of sight to see the final product!
