Fourth Grade Egg Drop Challenge
Using a combination of creativity, physics, engineering principles and environmental awareness, Shorecrest fourth graders gathered recyclable materials to create a structure that would safely protect an egg when dropped from the Charger Commons stairwell.
The objective was to use the materials to design a container or cushioning structure that absorbs shock, reduces impact, and keeps the egg intact upon landing. This challenge encourages students to think critically about energy absorption and distribution, while working collaboratively with their peers. They built structures with crumple zones, parachutes, and padded compartments to reduce direct force on their eggs. While working to protect their eggs, the Chargers also demonstrated teamwork and practical problem-solving skills -- and had a ton of fun!
