Jonathan Davis Appointed Head of Middle School

Faculty Spotlight

Shorecrest Preparatory School is pleased to announce that Jonathan E. Davis will be the new Head of the Shorecrest Middle School effective July 1, 2015. The Assistant Middle School Head since 2006, Davis will succeed Jane Morelli Johnson following her retirement at the end of the 2014-15 school year. The Middle School at Shorecrest includes 315 students in 5th-8th grades and 32 faculty.

“Jonathan Davis embodies the perfect blend of personal and professional skills to support our Middle School students, their parents, the faculty and the school. We look forward to seeing him take on the new role,” holds Mike Murphy, Headmaster of Shorecrest Preparatory School. Davis holds a BA in History and a Master of Arts in Teaching, both from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He has been a member of the Shorecrest community since 2003 when he joined the school as an 8th Grade English teacher and soccer coach.

In his current role as Assistant Middle School Head Davis lead the faculty’s Professional Learning Community on integrating technology into the curriculum and worked with teachers to launch the School’s 1:1 iPad program. He’s also the coordinator of the international student program school-wide, overseeing the admission and placement of international students at Shorecrest. Davis states, “I'm excited about the new opportunity. This new role will give me a chance to build upon the twelve years I've been a part of the Shorecrest family. I appreciate the trust the school, parents, students, and faculty have given me. I can’t wait to get started!”

Mary Harris, a parent member of the search committee, shared, “We couldn't have been happier to hear that Mr. Davis was selected after a competitive, nationwide search!  Mr. Davis is intelligent, kind, funny, and in touch with the students. We have been at Shorecrest for eight years and have thirteen more to go with our four children, so this decision was very important to us.”

"Jonathan Davis is loved by students and parents alike,” says Shorecrest parent Kirsten Danielson, who also served on the search committee. “His enthusiasm and commitment to Shorecrest are assets to us all. During my family's seven years here at Shorecrest, we have seen Jonathan emerge as a trusted leader in our community. As my 7th grader said, ‘Mr. Davis is one of a kind.’--in the very best of ways.”

The Middle School faculty at Shorecrest were similarly pleased with the decision. Kris Grant, a 7th and 8th Grade Spanish teacher who has been at Shorecrest since 2010, said, “We have had the opportunity to work closely with Jonathan for a number of years and we believe that it will be a seamless transition for students, faculty and parents.  As a member of the search committee I know that we conducted a very thorough search and we were fortunate to have the best candidate already working as a member of our community.” Tedra Tatlebaum, who joined the Shorecrest Middle School as a 5th Grade English teacher this year was also on the search committee. She commented, “With a strong vision and a clear mission, Mr. Davis is the best person to lead us on this next leg of our journey – a journey that is sure to be innovative, collaborative and full of laughter!”
