November Lunch & Learn: Make To Learn

CAE News

The “Make to Learn” parent workshop will be in the SAC from 12-1pm on November 5. Learn about Shorecrest's Makerspace and the importance it has in improving your child’s learning in school.

Why is “Making” and the Makerspace crucial in helping students learn? Do you want your child to have 21st Century skills, be a problem solver, an independent thinker, as well as practice using the skills they learn to cement what they learn in school?

Brain research shows that children who do first, and then watch a video or read a textbook do better on tests and remember what they learn better than students who do it in the reverse learning order. Plus kids who “Make” are proven to be quicker to apply knowledge gained by making real things than students who just learn about something passively.

Shorecrest was one of the first schools in Florida to have a Makerspace, and at present Shorecrest is one of only 4 schools in all of Florida to have a Makerspace. Why should you care? Our Makerspace is not only cutting edge, it is going to give your child an edge in the 21st century job market.

How? Want to know more?
Attend the TLC Lunch and Learn on November 5. At the session you will explore how and why the Makerspace can improve your child’s thinking and learning, and prepare them for the 21st Century job market.

Another reason to attend:
In the “Make to Learn” session, you will learn what the Makerspace is and exactly how it can be used in the classroom to strengthen learning and build 21st century skills.  Do you think the Makerspace is just for building robots or making crafts?  By the end of our session you will understand why the "Minds on, Hands on" approach to learning will give your child skills, increase motivation and make learning stick. We will even do a little making ourselves at the workshop.

The workshop will be geared toward Lower and Middle School parents; however, we welcome anyone who would like to learn more about the Shorecrest Makerspace and why making improves learning to attend.

Bring your lunch (if you want) and we will provide drinks and deserts. We hope to see you there!

RSVP to Tracie Belt at 456-7528 or [email protected] to save your spot.
