Shorecrest School

Mixed Week for Chargers Swim & Dive

Athletics

GIRLS: Chargers 148  Tampa Prep 166
BOYS: Chargers 148  Tampa Prep 164

The Shorecrest Chargers Swim & Dive teams swam and dove as well as could be expected but still surrendered to Tampa Prep on both the girls and boys sides.  The girls dominated the 200 Medley and 400 Free Relays (Hannah B., Taylor E., Clara W., Courtney C.) to contribute to the tight score.

Winning an individual event each were: Hannah B. (50 Free), Sophie E. (Diving) and Courtney C. (100 Breast).

The boys 400 Free Relay (Jake A., Pablo C., Joseph B. , Caleb K.) was the big point scorer for the team and individually only Jake A. (50 Free) was able to win an event.  The second, third and fourth place finishes by the Chargers were key to keeping it so close, and the time drops from many swimmers was a bonus!

The Middle School team competed this week as well and, once again, the girls team were winners! The boys are trading back and forth with Berkeley Prep and were second place this week. Winning individual events for the girls team were: Ainsley B. (100 IM, 50 Fly), Claire E. (200 Free, 50 Back)and Devyn K. (100 Free). For the boys, Carsan C. finished first in the 200 Free.

This past Saturday, the varsity team fulfilled their volunteer obligation by volunteering at the St. Pete Free Clinic Food Bank, stuffing take-home bags with food for needy children. Many thanks to Max K., Hannah B., Joseph B., Reagan Q., Jake A. Chase A., Misha M., Caleb K., David S., Scott S. and Emery C. for spending time on this worthwhile project. A special thank you to Alyssa F. for coordinating the project for the team. The Middle School team will have their turn on October 15th.

As we are halfway through the season, the coaching staff would like to recognize the incredible amount of hours that our families donate to keep our Swim and Dive team in operation. Every home meet requires an incredible 55 hours of time to properly host and run the event. At this point we are at over 400 hours of volunteer time for just the home and away meets. This does not include the many, many hours of time that our families spend on planning, team dinner, social events, etc. The team cannot do it without these great volunteers so THANKS to these fantastic Shorecrest families for making Shorecrest Swim & Dive one of the best teams in Pinellas County and beyond!

The varsity squad is back in action this Friday and Saturday for the Bay Conference / Tampa Bay Classic Swim & Dive Meet.
