After an extensive national search, Anthony McCall has been selected as Shorecrest's next Athletic Director. McCall, who currently serves as Athletic Director at Montgomery Academy (Montgomery, AL), will begin his duties on July 1, 2018.
According to Shorecrest Headmaster Mike Murphy, “Anthony McCall brings knowledge of the important academic responsibilities of our students and experience with coaching those students to have success in the classroom, on the field and on the courts. Mr. McCall is committed to educating students to be good people and to our Winning the Right Way philosophy.”
McCall has more than 20 years of experience as an educator, coach and administrator. Under his tenure as AD at Montgomery Academy, the varsity teams have won 34 State Championships, been State Runner-up 19 times, and amassed a number of Area, Region, and Section championships. A seasoned coach in both basketball and football, his varsity basketball teams advanced to three State Final Fours, had 7 State Regional appearances, and won 9 Area championships. His varsity football teams had a record of 40-17 over five seasons which included 2 Region championships, one Region runner-up, and three playoffs appearances. During that span his teams advanced to the State Quarterfinals twice.
Himself a former student-athlete, McCall attended Auburn University on an athletic scholarship for football. He graduated with a degree in Marketing in 1991, then spent the first years of his career in the banking industry. From banking he moved into the role of Director of Minority Business Outreach for the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce for three years, serving also as a community coach for Montgomery Academy. He went on to join Montgomery Academy full time as an educator, coach, and administrator.
McCall succeeds Jeff Raab as Shorecrest Athletic Director. Raab, who has been with Charger Athletics for 21 years, will stay on to launch the school's intramural program for grades 3-6 to help build the pipeline for Shorecrest Charger Athletics. He will also return to being Head Coach of the Varsity Cross Country team.
Anthony and his wife Dolores have two children, Nakia (30) and Anthony (29), and a granddaughter, Emeri (9).
“Shorecrest has been the epitome of quality education in Pinellas County," says McCall. "As an educator, I am ecstatic about the opportunity to join such a school community, and look forward to the prospect of enhancing Shorecrest athletic’s commitment to 'winning the right way.'"
