Guest expert Heather Vidal visits Kindergarten

Kindergarten

For our living and nonliving study, kindergarteners in Mrs. Hawley's class welcomed guest expert Heather Vidal, a Shorecrest tutor. Mrs. Vidal came to talk about some living things she has as pets. She has some typical pets like dogs and cats, but she also shared with us another type of pet she has -- chickens! She shared with us that she has adopted multiple chickens from around her neighborhood and now has seven hens! She and her husband built a coop for the chickens and now her two-year-old daughter loves to feed, water, and play with the chickens.

After learning about her pets, some students remembered seeing chickens that were raised by the kindergarten last year. "Could we do that, too?!" some of them asked. The class wrote a letter to Dr. Bianco to ask her if the kindergarten could hatch chicks again this year. After reading the letter, Dr. Bianco met with Mr. Murphy and they decided we can have chickens in kindergarten! The teachers believe the students will learn a lot from their incoming feathered friends.
