Alumni Spotlight: Robert King ‘90
Advanced learning and service are what motivate Robert King ‘90, a passion he credits to his roots at Shorecrest.
“My time at Shorecrest - across all academic disciplines from math to athletics to theater and music - have not only helped me to succeed academically, but to be a better, more well-rounded person in service of others,” said Robert.
Robert was a dedicated student-athlete throughout both high school and college.“My best memories at Shorecrest were with Coach Hayford beating the state champion, Frostproof High School, in football to win the district title and, literally, any of my classes taught by history teacher, Mr. Moore,” Robert shared.
He went on from Shorecrest to attend Davidson College where he majored in religion and was named All Academic Southern Conference in both track & field and football. Continuing his passion for formal education, Robert earned his master's degree in theology from Duke University.
He followed with doctoral studies at the University of Notre Dame in moral theology and early Christian history. He also holds an education specialist degree in educational technology and public policy.
Robert has spent the last decade teaching military personnel and developing online coursework. He is currently a research fellow in residence leading a team researching artificial intelligence and student perceptions of equity.
Robert’s wife, Maria King, is a fellow academic finishing her doctorate in healthcare administration. Maria is a Lab Supervisor for Advent Hospitals in Tarpon Springs and Palm Harbor.
Robert’s advice to current students is to “expand your horizons, be open to unexpected growth opportunities and always follow your vocational passions."
