LS Drama Club Performs Original Play
Lower School After School Clubs include two drama groups - Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thursday Drama Club members have been busy honing their storytelling and acting skills in preparation for their recent performance. Here's a glimpse of their creative process:
The club embarked on their adventure by learning the art of crafting a compelling story. They delved into the fundamental components of a good narrative, exploring how stories typically unfold. This laid the ground work for writing a play together.
Next they crafted the characters and storyline. With Halloween approaching, the club members decided to create a spooky play that would capture the spirit of the season. Their story included elements like trick-or-treating, haunted houses, and an amusingly silly pumpkin.
To practice collaboration and storytelling skills, they played a game in which everyone created a story together one word at a time. Once they got the hang of that, they told a story one sentence at a time. The result was a story with a delightful twist. While it started as a rendition of Little Red Riding Hood, they injected a dose of creativity by giving her a passion for basketball, where she even managed to dunk on the Big Bad Wolf!
Once the script was completed, they learned how to read through scripts. The majority of their club time was then dedicated to learning how to rehearse properly and rehearsing.
Throughout this entire process, these dedicated young actors exhibited enthusiasm and a strong work ethic. They truly put their hearts into creating, devising, and acting in their show.
After school activities allow students to have fun while exploring their passions in a relaxed, low-stakes setting. Whether it's arts, sports, science, or cooking, students can learn, grow, and bond with their peers.
