First Grade Tours Pinellas Animal Hospital

Lower School News

Mrs. Sheppard's first grade class was warmly welcomed at the Pinellas Animal Hospital on Monday. Doctor Godfrey and his staff taught them about small animals. First graders used their knowledge from their human body study and compared it to dogs and cats.

Students learned examining an animal is much like their yearly pediatric checkups. Dr. Godfrey used a stethoscope, looked into the animals' eyes, ears, and teeth, listened to their hearts, and felt their bellies. Students listened to a dog's heart with a stethoscope. Dogs and cats have a faster heartbeat than humans. They also looked at X-rays of dogs, cats, and a bearded dragon. Did you know cats have more bones than an adult human?
