Varsity Track and Field Break Records at Districts!

Athletics Upper School News

Varsity Girls First Place, Varsity Boys Second Place at 1A District 9 Meet!

Shorecrest Chargers Varsity Track & Field participated in the District Championship meet on April 20, 2023, at home on Haskell Track and Field. Many of the athletes were already fired up from posting epic performances the week before at the Tampa Bay Private School Championship.

At the Tampa Bay Private School Championship spectators witnessed Sonoma Kasica '24 throw the javelin farther than all high school girls in history for the state of Florida, with a mark of 44.35m! Jeremy Barton '23 threw the javelin 49.50m for another school record! Kaja Dionne '24 came close to breaking the school records in both the 100m and the 400m dashes.

The athletes headed into the District meet with confidence and focus. The day started out amazing with top performances in many events, which put both both teams into an early lead. By the time the field events were completed and track events began, the Shorecrest girls had to open up a comfortable 30 point lead. On the boys side, things were tight with Shorecrest holding a 10 point lead over Cambridge Christian. The girls continued their dominance on the track and finished the day winning by a 70 point margin over 2nd place team, Tampa Prep. The boys were in a fight for second place coming to the end of the track meet. After much grit and hard running the boys were able to secure a district runner-up title by holding off Carrollwood Day School by one point. In the end it was a fantastic day of competition all around for the Chargers, with multiple new School Records made!
