National Coming Out Day

Saturday, October 11, is National Coming Out Day. At Monday's Upper School morning meeting, senior Devon B., President of the school's Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) explained to peers the history behind the day and gave advice on how to react when someone you know comes out.
Devon shared a Human Rights Campaign video which takes a look back at some of the trailblazing coming out moments in American media which sparked important dialogue about the fight for equality.
He also shared a tumblr site where students with GSA-related questions may ask anything anonymously.
To help friends understand how to relate to those who just came out, he reminded the group that, "The person who is coming out to you is the same person they were before, you just know more about them now."
