Mayor's Youth Showcase of Achievement 2016

Upper School News


On Thursday, May 26, members of the community and Mayor Kriseman gathered at The Mahaffey Theater to witness the best of the best in local youth for eight categories:
  • Scholar Athlete
  • Overcoming Adversity
  • Performing Arts
  • Academic Achievement
  • Citizenship or Leadership
  • Visual Arts
  • Literary Arts
  • Science & Technology
The Showcase is organized by TASCO Teen Programs and highlights Pinellas County’s most talented students with performances, accolades, visuals and awards. Sixteen St. Petersburg area students were awarded a $750 prize package including a floridacentral Credit Union savings account and an iPad mini. Thirty-two runner-up teens received a $300 prize package. 

The evening began with Shorecrest's own recent alumna Ginny Swanson '16 singing "The Star-Spangled Banner." Later in the show she reprised her powerful ballad "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" from her role of Christine in "The Phantom of the Opera."

Shorecrest Middle School nominees included:
  • Meira K, who was in the top 3 for the Citizenship category
  • Cian M, Performing Arts
  • Kyle W, who was in the top 3 for the Science and Technology category
Congratulations to Charlotte L who was the overall winner in the high school Literary Arts category. She received a beautiful trophy, an iPad Mini and a $300 savings account.
