JV Tennis Opening Week

Upper School News


The Junior Varsity Tennis opening week began on Monday, February 14, with a first match against Saint Stephen's Episcopal School from Sarasota. SSES is a powerhouse in the district and our matches are always competitive and challenging. The Chargers were swept by SSES in most of the singles and doubles. 

Jonah D. '27 at the number 1 position lost a tough battle against Hao L. 4-6. Jayden P. '27 at the #2 position lost 0-6 against Edward G.  Leo J. '27 played #3 and lost to Pearson W 0-6.  Patrick Meng '25 at the #4 lost to Matt B. The Chargers sole victory in singles came with a win at #5 with Clark M. '26 defeating Tsan G 6-1. 

At doubles Dylan H. '27 and Will T. '27 dropped a hard fought battle to Aoli and Matt B 2-4, 2-4.  The number 2 doubles of Aadi P. '27 and Luc H. '26 lost their match as well.  

The Falcons proved to be a tough opponent for the Girls team and they fell 1 - 6. The lone victory was the dominating play of Claire C. '28 in the #2 singles position.
 
On Wednesday against ODA, the Chargers rebounded and ended with a 3-3 tie. JV boys team leader Jonah D. '27 made a phenomenal come from behind after being down 3-6 and won his singles match 8-6 against Keagan G. Jayden P. '27 at #2 lost 5-8 to Christopher P.  Leo J. '27 at #3 lost 3-8 to Thoma P.  Neel S. '28, a first year solid player, won 8-1 against Sosu K. 

In the doubles flights the Chargers split with ODA losing at #1 with Neel S. '28 and Lucas H. '26 v. Keagan G and Christopher P 2-8; but winning at #2 Dylan H. '27 and Clark M. '26 8-4 defeating Thomas P and Sosu K.

The girls started with the doubles matches. Claire C. '28 and Emma S. '28 teamed up to play in the #1 Doubles spot where the two easily won 8 - 3. In the #2 Doubles spot Keira G. '28 and Emily M. '26 played a marathon of a match but came up short 7 - 8 following their tiebreaker. 

In singles, #1 Isabella J. '27 and #2 Claire C. '28 each defeated their opponents by a score of 8 - 0. In the #3 spot Kendall K. '28 won her match 8-7.

The JV team’s next match is scheduled for Monday, February 28th. Go Chargers!
