Celebrate the Arts: Chalk Art Brightens Up St Pete

Arts

During Celebrate the Arts week when Chargers are on campus, Middle School classes select a piece of art and recreate it as a group using chalk on the sidewalks around the Middle School Quad. (View samples from 2019.)

This year, chalk art happened at home while social distancing. Students were asked to use chalk to make art outside if possible, using the theme Earth Day 2020. Students who didn’t have chalk made other artistic representations of Earth Day. Middle School students were asked to be creative and have fun. When artworks were completed students shared a photo or video of the finished product on Padlet during CPR on Earth Day. Everyone could see each others’ art, and they were asked to leave comments on at least three pieces they enjoyed.

Chalk art drawings created by Jasper H ‘26 and his brother Jensen H ‘24 were featured on I Love the Burg! https://ilovetheburg.com/residents-transform-st-petersburg-into-an-open-air-chalk-art-gallery/

Students also had the option of participating in a recycled art challenge. View some of the upcycled and recycled art projects here.
