MS Tampa Bay Watershed Videos Shared

Arts

A lesson on watersheds and water quality has opened the door for learning about our local Tampa Bay watershed. Middle Students were exposed to often underestimated and little understood facts about the Tampa Bay watershed with the hopes of developing educated coastal citizens. After completing their lesson, eighth grade Marine Science students were given an alternative assessment challenge to create an informational video that would teach others about their local watershed, why it is important, and how we can keep it healthy.

Students first created a 1-page document with content they wanted to use to create their video. Pairs were randomly assigned and they were given just one class period to create their Tampa Bay Watershed videos. (As you listen to the videos you may hear rain, wind, and other students due to protocols put in place to keep everyone safe but functioning during a tornado watch!)

Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center featured the Shorecrest Middle School student videos on their blog. You can view the videos and learn a few interesting facts about our local ecosystem!
