Pinellas Boys Player of the Year: Peter Litsky, Shorecrest Class of 2016

Biggest accomplishment: Litsky was denied a spot in the state tournament last year after losing to Canterbury’s Evan Holvoet in the district final. This season he not only qualified for the state tournament, but won all three matches in the individual bracket in straight sets as well as the overall championship. “That is definitely a highlight,” he said. “It wasn’t the goal at the beginning of the season, but it became something I knew I could accomplish.”

Did you know? Litsky has played varsity tennis at Shorecrest since the sixth grade. He has not decided if he will play high school tennis as a senior. “It didn’t take me that long to get used to playing against older players because I had been playing with my (older) brother (Nick) and his friends for a long time,” he said. “I was used to it. It did take some time to get used to playing when the score counted.

What’s next? Litsky has verbally committed to Brown University in Providence, R.I., but has not decided on his course of study.

Quotable: “I’m either doing homework or playing tennis. I understand it’s what I have to do. I’ve come to terms with it.”
