The Chargers Varsity Football team came up short against a powerful Cambridge team on September 4 at Haskell Field, losing 41-10. This puts the Chargers at 1-1 on the season.
Despite the loss, coach Steve Dudley saw many bright spots from his young Charger team. He said, "Our boys were up against a very experienced, state playoff team with lots of size, speed & numerous college prospects. Our guys were a little shell-shocked early, but in the second half we settled down & put together some nice drives, and had some good success moving the ball and slowing down the powerful Cambridge attack. We need to learn from this experience and get ready for Bradenton Christian this week. We are a really young team, but we are really close to putting things together and realizing our potential. We still have a chance to have a great season if we can eliminate some of our mistakes and play with confidence. I was proud of how our guys approached the second half. They fought hard & believed in one another."
One of the bright spots was freshman Colin H scoring on a 27 yard sweep for the Charger’s only touchdown. Cooper W and Orren F were standouts for the Charger defense.
