Homecoming: Chargers beat the Barons

Athletics

The Chargers opened the scoring with an electric 75 yard sweep for a touchdown by dynamic freshman Colin H, putting the Chargers on top 7-0. The Barons responded with a 14 play / 70 yard drive to tie the game at 7-7, then went ahead with another TD to put the Barons up 14-7 midway through the 2nd quarter. The Chargers quickly responded with a perfectly thrown pass from Will L to Colin H to tie the game 14-14.

With about 2 minutes remaining in the first half, Orren F capped off a 5 play drive as he bulled his way into the end zone for a 2 yard rushing touchdown putting the Chargers up 20-14 after missing the Extra Point.

The Chargers defense tightened down in the 2nd half & forced the Baron to punt  on consecutive possessions, but were called for “roughing the punter” giving the Barons a 1st Down, and new life as the Barons engineered a TD drive and kicked the extra point to put them on top of the Chargers 21-20 early in the 4th quarter. SPC attempted an “Onside Kick” on the ensuing kickoff, but the Chargers recovered the kickoff near midfield, and just 2 plays later connected on a 61 yard TD pass from Will L to Aundre F where the ball was tipped by the defender into the hands of Fredericks for the “go ahead” touchdown making the score 26-21. The Chargers lined up in one of their 2-point conversion formations & executed the play to perfection with Will L connecting with Patrick F for the conversion and a 28-21 lead.

With time winding down the Barons put together an impressive drive that ended when Aaron S intercepted the SPC quarterback, then fumbled the ball momentarily with Aundre F recovering the loose ball to secure the exciting and hard fought Charger Homecoming victory!

This win brings the Chargers to 5-3 on the season with the final home game (senior night) November 6 against Marco Island Academy (7:00 Kickoff).
