Chargers vs Indian Rocks Christian, 1/21, 56-42 Win
The Chargers knew this game would not resemble the blow out they had against IRC in the first contest at home. IRC played their pesky zone defense and held the ball on offense to get good shots and try and shorten the game. There were signs of the Chargers busting it open early as Devin G hit 3 long 3’s, but then went out with a sprained ankle. The boys tried to pressure and up tempo the game, but to no avail as they led by 26-16. The second half they held a safe lead from 10-16, but could never put the game out of reach until the end.
On the night Marcus had 14 point and 9 rebounds, Tyee had 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Kent added 11.
Chargers vs Northside Christian, 1/22 93-63 Win
Shorecrest jumped to a 10-0 lead and never looked back. Devin F. had 4 first quarter 3 pointers and the Chargers cruised from there. Marcus was a beast, tallying a career high and school record 20 rebounds to go with his 24 points, 4 were spectacular dunks. Devin F had 17 points on 5-3’s, Kent had 21 points, Colin had 17 points and 8 rebounds, Tyee had 8 points and 6 assists and Aundre had 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the win. This game closes out regular season district play as the boys end with an 11-1 record and the number one seed going into district play next Friday February 5th at St. Petersburg Catholic.
Chargers vs Clearwater Central Catholic, 1/25, 67-63 Win
A long time district foe moved up to 4A this season, but the Chargers agreed to play a non-district contest for our last regular season home game. The new look CCC, with several new players, competed from the opening tip and gave the boys all that they could handle. The game was within 5 points the entire night with CCC clinging to 19-17 lead after 1 quarter, 36-34 at halftime and then 52-51 after 3 quarters. But the Chargers grabbed the lead early in the 4th and looked to gain some momentum, but 2 late 3 pointers by CCC and in 2 possessions the Chargers were back down 1. A finish by Marcus, 2 big free throws by Tyee and one by Aundre sealed the game in the last minute. The game was a great much needed test as the boys prepare for the district tournament next week.
On the night Marcus had 19 points, Tyee had 13, including 5-5 from the FT line, Kent had 12 points including 5-5 from the line and Colin added 11 with a couple clutch baskets late after battling foul trouble.
